(A) ANGUL NAC
The present quantum of water supply to the Angul Town is 2.90 MLD against the total demand of 3.22 MLD @ 100 Lpcd. Majority of the water supply comes from the Raniguda Water Tank. Presently, the water is being pressure-filtered after localized mixing of alum and somewhat chlorination through the bleaching powder. Besides, there are 14 production wells and 149 running hand pump tube wells (111 of PHD +32 sunk by the TADA + 6 sunk by the NAC) to supplement the water supply to the town. For the long term, a scheme for `augmentation of quality water supply to the Angul Town' (sanctioned vide letter No.38702 Dt. 28.11.98 of the H.& U.D. Department) has been taken up through the Orissa Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWS & SB), Bhubaneswar. Though the scheme was administratively approved vide letter No. 38702 dt.28.11.98 for Rs. 1234.65 Lacs (Rs.3.70 Cr. as margin money from the Govt. + Rs. 8.65 Cr. as loan from the HUDCO), due to financial constraint, it is planned to be executed in two phases. For the 1st phase administrative approval, the Board has sent the scheme to the Govt. in Finance Deptt. for concurrence. The foundation stone for the work has already been laid by Hon'ble Ex-Union Minister of State, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Dr. Debendra Pradhan on 15.08.2000. The tendering process for construction of the 14 MLD treatment plan near the jail has completed and the work is awarded to the M/S SICO Environmental Ltd., Calcutta. Design for the work is under scrutiny at Viswaswaray Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur. Sri Bhagaban Sahoo, Executive Engineer, (PH) has joined as Project Engineer to oversee the work. As an immediate short term measure for improving the quality of water supply from the Raniguda tank, bamboo screens have been fixed at the entrance of the intake well. Installation of a bleaching dosing pump for chlorination etc. has been completed. As regards the en-route treatment of the waste water mixing into the Raniguda tank, necessary survey has been completed by the OWS&SB. They have prepared an estimate for Rs.25 Lacs for treatment of water on localized basis and utilization of the treated water for development of a park proposed to be taken up by the NAC near the L.I.C. office, Similipara. An amount of RS. 5 Lacs has been kept in the budget, which may be released early to start the work. In order to deal with the problem of the inadequate water supply to the Bazar area, an exploratory tube well at Ghasisahi, Hulurisinga has been energized on 02.10.2000. As a result of this supply of additional 0.25 MLD good quantity and quality of water has become possible to the scarcity prone area of the Angul Bazar and Hemasurpara. In order to deal with the possible drinking water scarcity during the drought like situation and in summer, proposal for sinking 20 tube wells for the Angul NAC area, 20 tube wells for the Talcher Municipality area and 10 tub wells for the Athamallik NAC area was sent to Govt. Against this, only 03 tubewells for Angul NAC, 06 for Talcher Municipalty and 11 for Athamallik NAC have been received, all of which have been completed. Besides, 4 out of total 7 production wells have been successfully sunk. In the Talcher municipal area, against the water demand of 3.42 MLD @ 100 Lpcd, currently only 1.78 MLD water is being supplied. Out of the total 21 wards, only 14 wards are connected by the existing water supply system. Besides 72 tube wells are in operation. A revised estimate amounting to Rs. 5.04 Cr. has been prepared in the light of the present requirement of the town and submitted to the Chief Engineer, PH Orissa, Bhubaneswar by S.E. PH Circle, Cuttack vide his letter No. 2630 dt. 27.05.2000. The proposal has covered water supply to the remaining seven wards of the Municipality. During its last Peripheral Development Committee Meeting held on 28.05.2000, the MCL has agreed to release an amount of Rs. 50.00 Lacs for the Talcher water Supply Scheme. Against this, it has already deposited an amount of Rs. 25.00 Lacs on 27.11.2000 with the OWS&SB. For the 4.00 MLD capacity water treatment plant at Talcher, administrative approval has been received from the H&UD. Deptt. Govt. of Orissa vide their letter No.32750 dt. 09.11.2000 to start the work with available funds of 50 Lacs contributed by MCL. Foundation stone for the work has been laid by the Hon'ble Ex-Union Minister of State , Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairing, Dr. Debendra Pradhan on 14.08.2000. Site has already been selected. Soil testing has been conducted by the Central Laboratory (R&B), Cuttack. In order to increase the water supply, the pumping hours of the water supply were increased from 18 to 20 hours at headworks during the summer. The length of thye riser pipes of requisite tube wells was extended to yield the adequate water from the hand pumps during the summer. During the current year, 16 number of tube wells have been sanctioned by the Government in H&UD Deptt. to take care of the immediate water supply crisis. Out of this, 05 tubewells have already been sunk and work for the remaining in under progress. All the tube wells alloted during the current year has already been installed.
